3 Simple Tricks to Boost Circulation & Ease Nerve Pain

Proper circulation is critical to maintaining healthy hands and feet.  Though Neuropathy pain is due to nerve damage rather than poor circulation, good circulation can help provide some relief and ease the symptoms of Neuropathy.

By taking small steps to improve circulation you promote blood flow to the skin of the hands and feet, which can reduce pain levels and make it more tolerable.  Here are three simple tips for improving circulation to your hands and feet:

Warm/Cold Water Bath

This technique involves soaking your hands or feet in a tub of water, alternating between warm and cold water.  This improves circulation by promoting the relaxation and constriction of blood vessels.  For example, the warm water expands the blood vessels – allowing for more blood to flow.  The cold water then constricts the vessels, forcing the blood to other parts of the body.

Additionally, the warm water helps promote relaxation and reduces stress, which can be beneficial in reducing pain.

Note:  If you suffer from numbness, use caution with the water temperatures.  Ask a family member or friend to help make sure temperatures are not too extreme, or touch the water with your arm or an area of the body that does not suffer from numbness prior to soaking the numb area in the water.

Massage

Simple massages can help desensitize and promote better circulation in the hands and feet.  You can try self-massage techniques or enlist the help of a family member or loved one.  Additionally, you may consider regular massage therapy with a professional if your budget and circumstances allow.

Dress Loose

From the shirt on your back down to the socks on your feet, wear loose-fitting clothing that will not restrict the body.  Tight fitting socks and shoes are especially hazardous.  By wearing loose-fitting clothing and footwear, you limit the restriction on blood vessels.
